While there are many homes in and around Toronto that are jaw-dropping, this architect’s home really has us scraping our jaws off the floor.

And we’re not the only ones who’ve been capitaveted by this 6,000-square-foot marvel.

905 Sangster Ave., which has only ever been owned by architect William Hicks,  won Toronto Life‘s contest for Best New House in Toronto and the GTA, as well as an urban design award from the City of Mississauga. It was also featured in a home tour for the Ontario city.

The front of the house.

Situated in the historic Lorne Park Estates, the house an exterior heritage character that kind of resembles a Cape Cod house with its cedar shingles.

The dining room.

But don’t let the historic-looking exterior fool you — the interior recently underwent a renovation that brought in a ton of modern flair.

The living room.

“The design is inspired by the impressive surroundings, showcasing extensive use of glass to maximize views and natural light, resulting in a brightly lit interior at all times of the day,” notes realtor Michael Phinney.

The foyer.

As you enter the home, you’ll notice some classic hallmarks of modern design.

The servery off the dining room.

For example, there are the towering glass walls that frame the views of the surrounding property, really giving an indoor-outdoor feel, as well as flooding the spaces with natural light.

Glass walls keep the space open.

While the main floor isn’t technically open concept, the glass dividing wall really makes the space feel airy.

The family room.

The prinicple rooms are spacious and bright, and the fireplaces that bookend the living room and family room add a cozy touch.

The kitchen.

Phinney mentions the entertainer’s kitchen “embodies luxury and functionality.”

The kitchen looks out into the backyard.

It’s complete with top-of-the-line appliances and a large island.

The primary bedroom.

905 Sangster Ave. boasts four bedrooms and five bathrooms in total.

The primary ensuite bathroom.

There’s nothing overly special about them, but they are spacious and bright. The primary and the guest bedroom also each have their own ensuite.

Another bedroom.

The other two bedrooms share a bathroom.

A bedroom.

There’s a third-storey loft, which Phinney explains has limitless potential.

“It could be ideal as a sophisticated office, an additional bedroom, a serene guest suite, or an inspiring art studio,” he tells blogTO.

The recreation room in the basement.

There’s more living space in the finished basement, which has a large recreation room, a gym and a laundry room.

The breakfast nook.

“This home is a perfect blend of elegance and practicality, designed for both relaxation and celebration,” says Phinney.

But the real draw of 905 Sangster Ave. isn’t just the house, but Lorne Park in general.

“Lorne Park Estates is surrounded by 40 acres of naturally preserved forest. The community offers amenities such as tennis and pickleball courts, children’s playgrounds and gathering areas, fostering a sense of connection among residents,” explains Phinney.

The back of the house.

Not to mention, the home is linked to the trail system for Jack Darling and Richards Park.

The gardens.

But if you’re not into communal outdoor time, the house still has beautifully-landscaped gardens, stone terraces and walkways, making it its own private retreat.

905 Sangster Ave. is listed for $4,688,000.
