A mass shooting at a Toronto pub is making international headlines this morning but thankfully it resulted in no fatalities.

According to Toronto Police, the shooting occured on Friday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. at Piper Arms pub which was celebrating its grand opening. When police and paramedics arrived on the scene they discovered that twelve people had been injured with some lying on the floor or sitting where they were shot.

At least 6 were suffering from gunshot wounds that have been described as not life-threatening. Other injuries were related to flying glass and broken glass.

Here’s what police have reported so far:

  • 3 male suspects entered the pub around 10:30 p.m. One man was armed with an assault rifle and the other two were armed with handguns.
  • The suspects “opened fire indiscriminately” inside the pub which had numerous people inside eating and drinking and standing at the bar.
  • The motive for the shooting remains unclear but some media have inquired whether the shooting is related to the tow truck turf war that has been plaguing Toronto.

The shooting was captured on video and apparently shows how indiscriminate the shooting was. The video has not yet been released.

The investigation is active and ongoing. The suspects remain at large. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow has released a statement saying her “thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

Piper Arms pub is located at 520 Progress Avenue near the Scarborough Town Centre. It’s just one of the pub’s many locations in the Toronto area. This location was first announced back in 2023 but the shooting took place on the pub’s official opening night.
