A cafe in Toronto that’s known for its bright patio and fresh sandwiches is preparing to permanently close its doors at the end of the month.

Juice & Java Cafe, located at 2102 Queen St. E. in The Beaches, is a cozy cafe serving up drink staples like lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies, and house-made lemonade alongside an extensive breakfast-to-lunch menu, which includes sandwiches, savoury and sweet crepes, wraps, salads, and omelettes.

News of the cafe’s upcoming closure was first reported by a local resident on a community Facebook page, where many quickly shared words of encouragement for the owner and staff.

In a phone call with blogTO, staff at the business confirmed that the business will be shutting down due to the owner’s “retirement.” The cafe did not share any further details.

Following the heartbreaking news, loyal patrons began to share sentimental stories about their visits to the cafe over the years.

“Oh so sad to hear. That was my favourite sandwich spot when I lived in the hood, about 12 years ago,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“I am very sorry to hear this news, love this local spot, great food, very hard-working nice folks. Very sad,” another comment reads.

Juice & Java Cafe will officially close its doors on Nov. 30, following vibrant 15 years in the neighbourhood.
