A celebrated chocolate shop in Toronto is shutting down after over a decade of whipping up quality confections.

Founded in 2010 by Callebaut Chocolate Academy-trained chocolatier, Sharon Shoot, the Beaches’ Chocolate by Wickerhead has been a local institution for the better part of the past 14 years.

The shop specialized in Belgian chocolates, cranking out artisinal truffles on the regular, alongside seasonal offerings like what I can only describe as the only actually tasty chocolate Easter bunny I’ve eaten in my life, making it an immediate go-to in the community.

In 2022, Chocolate by Wickerhead was sold to new owners, who were trained by Sharon in the ways of crafting the much-loved treats, and all of the chocolate shop’s cherished recipes were maintained as the shop’s legacy continued.

Suddenly, though, the shop announced it would soon be closing down for good through a post made in a local Facebook group and a statement on their website.

According to the statement, titled “Farewell,” the shop’s owners made the difficult decision to close up shop due to the quaint Queen East storefront no longer meeting “the needs of making our delicate chocolates anymore.”

The note goes on to say that, as much as the closure is a goodbye, it’s also a “celebration of an incredible journey that’s been nothing short of amazing,” taking the time to thank each and every person who’s stopped by the shop over the years.

“Our beloved shop became a second home to us, allowing us to create unforgettable memories and lasting relationships along the way,” the note reads.

The shop’s current owners declined to provide additional details or a statement on the closure, while Sharon, who is no longer affiliated with the shop, still admits to blogTO that she’s “heartbroken” to see it shutter.

There’s still a little bit of time to get your hands on what’s left of Wickerhead’s inventory, as the shop’s last day in operation is set to be Sunday, Nov. 10, running 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend.

Chocolate by Wickerhead is located at 2375 Queen East.
