For the first time in over five years, Toronto Raptors legend Kyle Lowry had the chance to celebrate a championship in the streets.
But unlike the Raptors’ iconic parade through the streets of downtown Toronto in June 2019, Lowry didn’t play a part in winning this trophy: it’s just been a lifelong bond with his hometown team.
On Sunday night, the current Philadelphia 76ers point guard went out to Broad Street in downtown Philadelphia, celebrating the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
And while some sports stars might not exactly want to broadcast their antics to the general public, Lowry himself uploaded some behind-the-scenes footage of the big party in downtown Philly.
As one of only eight players in the NBA at 38 or older, it’s clear that Lowry’s career might not have that many seasons left. Playing just under 19 minutes a night for Philadelphia, the six-time All-Star isn’t quite the talent he once was.
But even as one of the league’s elder statesmen, Lowry showed off his youthful exuberance that made him a hit among fans during his nine seasons in Toronto.
“I had to get out and celebrate with everyone!! What a time!! Super Bowl champs baby!! Fly Eagles fly,” Lowry wrote. “E.A.G.L.E.S! EAGLES!!”
Lowry’s had a pretty good run as an Eagles fan in recent memory, with the team making the Super Bowl three times since 2017. The victory on Sunday night was their second in franchise history, with Jalen Hurts taking home MVP honours for the game.
But if Lowry’s hoping to celebrate another NBA championship for himself, he might need more than a few good graces to go his way. The 76ers are in the midst of a dreadful season, as they currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-32 record, 1.5 games back of the final play-in spot.
