Springlike weather might just be put on pause in Toronto this week, as the ultimate Uno-reverse takes place, sending balmy temperatures to the Arctic and frigid ones to southern Ontario.

It’s no secret that the weather in Toronto has been flip-flopping all season long, but this week, it also looks like two very different regions will be trading temperatures for a few days, the Weather Network reports.

As Toronto will grapple with what Meteorologist Kevin Mackay describes as “some of the coldest air in almost a decade for April” this week, some of the warmest temperatures in the country can be found “well above the 60th parallel.”

Up around the western half of the Arctic Circle, balmy temperatures in the mid-single digits are forecast to linger all week long, while Toronto fights to break the freezing mark. Talk about the short end of the stick!

Mackay goes on to note that, while this seemingly backwards weather system is certainly an anomaly, the far north is no stranger to massive temperature swings in the month of April.

In the past, Yellowknife’s April temperatures have been documented to swing by as much as 60 degrees Celsius, reaching highs of 20 and lows of -40 within the same month, so folks up north may not want to switch to their lighter coats quite yet.

As for Toronto residents, we’ll have to make do with these polar lows until Friday, when things start to warm up just in time for the weekend and appear, for now at least, to stabilize somewhat in the weeks ahead.

The Farmer’s Almanac’s spring outlook for Canada did suggest that spring would take the scenic route on its approach, and, true to its word, that’s exactly what we’ve gotten so far in Toronto, but the end may very well be in sight.

Until then, though, refrain from putting your winter jacket into storage for the next nine months. We’re almost there!
