$800,000 Toronto home feels like taking a step back in time

Most detached houses in Woburn and Scarborough sell for over $1.1 million.

So to find a home on as big of a lot as 35 Marcella St. listed for less than $800,000 is a pleasant surprise.

Sitting atop a whopping 64 by 112 foot lot is this charming two-bedroom, one bathroom home, which is listed for only $799,988.

The foyer.

Now, with a plot size like that and a lower-than-average listing price, the obvious conclusion is that this is being sold for a complete demolition and rebuild.

The living room.

Or at the very least, it’s being sold to be significantly renovated to create a bigger house to suit the next owner’s needs.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The dining room.

But a tiny part of me sincerely hopes the subsequent owners don’t do that to this little bungalow.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The basement recreation room.

Sure, the house is dated with a wood-panelled basement and popcorn ceilings, but for the most part, the house looks like something straight out of Little House on the Prairie.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The second bedroom.

It’s so charming, cozy, and cute.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The kitchen.

There is a ton of natural light, warm wood floors, and the kitchen has a mural as a backsplash.

The kitchen looks into the dining room.

It doesn’t get more wholesome than that.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The open concept living and dining areas.

On the main floor, you have the primary living spaces as well as the two bedrooms.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The primary bedroom.

The primary bedroom is cute with hand-painted architectural details that make what could be an ordinary closet or dresser extraordinary.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The bathroom.

The one space that actually needs a significant upgrade is the bathroom. The mismatched tiles, green bathtub from the 70s and overall lack of storage need remedying ASAP.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The living room.

Since the house is built into the side of a hill, the lower level of the house is pretty much above ground and is a super bright space.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The stone fireplace in the basement.

There’s a recreation room with a wood burning stone fireplace, warm wood panelled walls and an old-timey looking bar.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The third bedroom.

There’s also an extra bedroom with some genuinely questionable green carpeting.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The backyard.

The lower level of the house walks out into the expansive backyard.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

An overhead shot of the garden.

There’s plenty of potential with the backyard, whether you’re a big gardener or want a pool, there’s probably room for both.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The primary bedroom.

So while this house may not be the flashiest on the block, it has heart and a lot of land.

35 Marcella Street Toronto

The back of the house.

Whether the next owner chooses to preserve its charm or start fresh with a new build, one thing is for sure: at this price, it’s a rare find.
