Nova Scotia officials have lifted an evacuation order for a wildfire east of downtown Halifax, with the fire being held at about 0.3 square kilometres in size.

The Halifax Regional Municipality issued an alert telling residents near Ostrea Lake they can return to their homes from 12:30 p.m. local time, but to stay prepared in case the situation changes.

Residents near Ostrea Lake in Musquodoboit Harbour had been asked to leave on Sunday afternoon.

Adèle Poirier, with the Department of Natural Resources, says 20 firefighters are at the scene about 45 kilometres east of downtown Halifax.

Poirier says the department’s helicopter is also ready to assist if needed.

Officials say rain on Sunday helped firefighters battle the blaze, which did not grow overnight.
