Barnes leads Raptors in 122-104 rout of Pacers

TORONTO – Scottie Barnes had a double-double to lead the Toronto Raptors in a 122-104 rout of the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

Barnes finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds and six assists as Toronto (32-22) won back-to-back games. Barnes surpassed former Raptors all-star Pascal Siakam for the fifth most double-doubles in team history with 103.

RJ Barrett of Mississauga, Ont., scored 20 points with eight rebounds and five assists. Immanuel Quickley, who was a game-time decision, added 13 points and six assists.

Rookie centre Collin Murray-Boyles left the game with 3:47 left in the first quarter and did not return after he sprained his left thumb. He had two points in eight minutes of play.

Trayce Jackson-Davis made his Raptors debut after being traded to Toronto on Thursday. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 15 minutes of play.

Siakam had 18 points and four rebounds as Indiana (13-40) lost its fourth straight. TJ McConnell came off the bench for 10 points and seven assists and Andrew Nembhard of Aurora, Ont., scored 10 points.

Pacers swingman Johnny Furphy left the game after taking a bad fall in the third quarter. The Pacers said he was out with right leg soreness.

Takeaways

Raptors: Barnes helped Toronto blow the game wide open in the third quarter, scoring 13 of his points in the period. The Raptors dominated the period, making 60.7 per cent of their field-goal attempts and all six of their free throws. Toronto outscored Indiana 44-26 in the quarter.

Pacers: The two teams were evenly matched through the first two quarters, with nearly identical statlines but Indiana holding a 48-46 lead. At that point, the difference had been the Pacers’ better free-throw shooting. They made all nine of their attempts from the charity stripe compared to Toronto’s 7 for 12 shooting on free throws in the first half.

Key moment

Barnes fed Quickley for a 26-foot three-pointer exactly halfway through the third quarter for a 19-point Raptors lead. That capped a 29-8 Toronto run.

Key stat

Ironically, Indiana couldn’t keep up with the Raptors’ pace. Toronto had 34 fast-break points to the visitors’ nine.

Up next

Toronto: Hosts the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday in the Raptors’ last game before the NBA’s all-star break.

Indiana: Visits the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
