MILAN – Canada has advanced to the final of speedskating’s women’s team pursuit.

Valérie Maltais, Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann won their semifinal against the United States by just over over four seconds to advance to the gold medal round.

The Canadian women won gold in 2022 in Beijing over Japan.

The Netherlands and Japan squared off in the other semifinal.

Maltais has already claimed an Olympic medal at the Milan Cortina Games with a bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.

Canada’s long-track team has earned two bronze medals with Laurent Dubreuil reaching the podium in the men’s 500 metres.
