Toronto burger joint closes location after 10 years

A Toronto burger joint known for its outrageous stacks is closing down its original location after a decade.

While the competition in Toronto for air force-themed burger spots that serve up ostentaciously loaded-up burgers is, admittedly, not particularly steep, there can still be no arguing that no one does it better than Top Gun Burgers.

Founded in 2015 with their original location on the prime Augusta Avenue strip in Kensingtonn Market, the spacious burger joint found itself frequently filled to the rafters with hungry patrons tucking into a variety of avian-themed fast food delights.

Menu offerings like the F35 Mac, Hellcat Cheese Burger and Maverick Burger all contribute to building out the restaurant’s theming, which is, as you may have gathered, loosely based around the Top Gun movies.

In the decade following, the brand went on to expand with locations across the city and GTA, boasting a high of five locations by early 2025.

Things appear to be taking a different direction for the burger chain, though, as the Top Gun team took to Instagram earlier this week to announce the sudden closure of the very Kensington Market location that made them a household name.

“After 10 amazing years of serving this incredible community, it’s time for us to say goodbye,” the caption of the post reads.

“We want to thank each and every one of you for your support, loyalty, and the unforgettable memories we’ve created together,” it goes on to say. “It’s been a true honor to be a part of your lives.”

The location had its final day in business on March 13, and, according to Google, the space already appears to have been scooped up by a shawarma business. Stay tuned for details on that to come.

At the time of publication, Top Gun Burgers has not responded to any request for comment on the reasons behind the closure, nor whether their other locations in the Annex, Scarborough, Vaughan or Mississauga are in jeopardy too.

Top Gun Burgers Kensington was formerly located at 251 Augusta.
