Videos show passengers evacuating Delta plane after crash at Toronto airport

Photos and videos are circulating on social media after a Delta airlines plane flipped over and crashed at Pearson Airport in Toronto. Details on the crash are still uncertain but here are the some of facts reported so far:

  • The plane was Delta airlines flight 4819 arriving from Minneapolis.
  • 80 people (76 passengers, 4 crew members) were on the flight of which at least two adults and one child have been reported as critically injured and taken to Toronto hospitals. 15 passengers in total were injured according to paramedics.
  • Photos and videos show the plane upside down on the runway. There has been no cause of the crash reported yet and there are no signs of any other planes involved in the incident. 
  • All flights were immediately suspended and/or cancelled at Pearson Airport as emergency crews respond to the incident. Flights later resumed as of 5 p.m. 

In one video posted to social media, passengers are shown evacuating from the Delta airlines plane flipped upside down.

Another video taken from inside the plane shows passengers exiting through one of the doors.

One of the passengers, Ashley Zook, posted a series of videos to Snapchat following the crash that show her temporarily upside down before evacuating the aircraft.

Audio between the control tower at Pearson and the cockpit has also been released online.

In the recording the pilot is warned that the plane might get “side bumping on glidepath” and that there would be an “aircraft in front of it”.

The plane’s model is a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR and was built by Bombardier. It has a capacity of 95 seats.
