The city says several structures have been destroyed after a wildland fire on Gunn Road in Transcona spread due to high winds.

The fire has been contained, says Deputy Chief Scott Wilkinson of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, and no injuries have been reported.

“Crews did a great job despite wind and heat conditions, keeping it from going beyond Gunn Road into the RM of Springfield and they prevented it from extending any further than it already has,” said Wilkinson. “But there is substantial loss to the buildings in the interior of that fire zone.”

Crews are expected to be on scene for much of the evening. There is no word yet on how the fire started.

No homes in the area have needed to be evacuated.

UPDATE: As of 3:56 pm, all but 10 customers have been restored by switching to an alternate power supply. The remaining 10 customers will be out until the fire is extinguished and we can access our poles. Thanks for your patience.
